SUNI Scholarship Spotlight: Rico Givens-Padilla
SUNI’s Neighborhood Scholarship isn’t just money—it’s a launchpad. Proof? Meet Rico Givens-Padilla, our 2021 recipient. In high school, he led blood drives and March for Our Lives walkouts, showing North Denver’s activist DNA is alive and well.
That same drive took him to Harvard, where he just finished his undergrad and accepted a fully funded Ph.D. in African American Studies & English.
Rico credits Sunnyside’s scholarship, North’s community-minded teachers, and a neighborhood that “knows resistance is in the soil.” We’re proud to have helped fuel his journey—and can’t wait to see what he does next.
