SUBJECT: SUNI February 2024 Newsletter

Hello, Neighbors.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! February is a short month long on celebration and reflection ✨.

We honor Black History Month, spotlighting trailblazers like Elvin Caldwell. As the first African American on the Denver City Council, he paved the way for future leaders in our community.

Yesterday's Lunar New Year 🐉 ushered in a new year of luck and prosperity. It's also time to express love in its myriad forms—towards our families, friends, and fellow neighbors ❤️🏠. Take this opportunity to deepen connections and show our appreciation for each other.

This month's SUNI Sipper will be on Feb. 20th, hosted by The Scapegoat at 5:30 pm. Find more events below.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to our Venezuelan Students Fundraiser 🙏. Read on to see the results and find new opportunities to help.

Stay warm and connected,

- The SUNI Board

District 1 Corner - Amanda Sandoval

In her recent newsletter, Councilwoman Amanda P. Sandoval emphasized the importance of Black History Month, urging us to acknowledge the vast contributions of African Americans beyond famous figures and to work towards a more equitable society. She drew a parallel with Valentine’s Day, using the Greek understanding of love's different forms to express her affection for the Northside's unique spots and community character. Sandoval encouraged reflection on personal connections to the community.
